Nang sa gayon maibigay ko sa aking pamilya ang masaganang buhay na aking ninanais para sa kanila. Napunta ako dito upang magtrabaho. Iba man ang mga tao,lingwahe at kultura na ngayon ko lang nakita, natuklasan at naranasan. Pinipilit kong ako ay makatayo sa laban ng buhay na aking sinuong. Laban para sa aking pamilyang minamahal. Tanging larawan, tawag at text ang pamatid ng aking kalungkutan ng sa gayon ako ay patuloy na magpunyagi sa landas na aking tinatahak. Landas na magdadala sa akin sa magandang buhay. Tanging panalangin ang sandata ko upang malabanan ang mga masamang impluwensya na maaaring makasira sa aking pangarap na binubuo. Mahirap man ang trabaho ko dito,ibinibigay ko ng husto ang kaya ko ng sa gayon hindi ako matanggal sa trabaho. Inilalagay ko sa isip lagi na mahalin ang trabaho ko. Dahil ito ang dahilan kung bakit ako nandirito. Kapag ako ay nakapapanood ng TFC hindi ko namamalayan na tumutulo na pala ang aking luha. Luha ng kagalakan na masilayan muli ang bayan na aking kinalakihan. Minsan ako ay naglilibang sa laptop na aking pinag-ipunan na kung saan nakakausap ko ang aking pamilya ng harapan pati na rin ang aking mga kaibigan. Tuwa, ngiti at may kasamang konting biruan kung kami ay nagkakausap. Dahil dito aking nalilimutan ang aking kahirapan na malayo sa bayan kong minamahal. Medyo pumayat ako noong unang taon ko dito. Marahil dahil sa kalungkutan at sa pagkain na ngayon ko lang natikman. Pinipilit kong ibagay ang aking sarili ng sa gayon ay matagalan ko ang kultura nila rito. Ako ay nagulat nang minsan, ang isa sa katrabaho kong Pilipino ay nanakit ng kapwa manggagawa dahil lamang sa di pagkakaunawaan. Tinanggal silang dalawa, umiiyak na lumapit ang kapwa ko Pilipino at humihingi ng tulong sa akin at sinabi niya kung anong buhay ang daratnan niya kung sakaling babalik siya sa Pilipinas. Sinabi nya na lahat ng kanilang pinaghirapan na ipinundar nilang mag-asawa ay naisangla at di pa nila nababayaran para lamang siya ay makapagtrabaho rito sa Italya. Naantig ang aking puso ng aking marinig ang kanyang sinabi. Kaya walang atubili kong tinulungan at sinabi kong " Naiintindihan kita, alam ko na hindi mo ginusto ang nangyari. Basta lagi ka lang manalangin at humingi ng tulong at gabay sa ating Poong Maykapal." , yan ang mga huling kataga na binaggit ko sa kanya. Muli, ako ay napaisip kung sa akin nangyari ang bagay na yun ei halos wala kaming pinagkaiba ng sitwasyon. Ipinapa-Diyos ko na lamang ang lahat na sinasamahan ko ng sipag at tiyaga.

Nagdaan ang Pasko at Bagong Taon na wala sa piling ng minamahal, tawag lang sa cellphone ang pumapawi sa aking kalungkutan sa mahahalagang araw na iyon. Pinagmamasdan ko ang mga kamay ng orasan dito sa loob ng aking kwarto at ginugunita ko ang mga masasayang araw kasama ang aking mahal sa buhay at ako'y napapangiti. Para tuloy akong baliw sa mga sandaling iyon. Mahirap kung iisipin ang buhay ng isang OFW na katulad ko. Maraming isinasakripisyo alang-alang sa pamilya. Oo, ang katawan ko nandito pero ang puso't isipan ko'y naiwan sa aking mga mahal sa buhay. Luha, pawis at sariling buhay ang puhunan ko para lamang maitaguyod at gumanda ang aming pamumuhay. Kaya, tanging dasal ko sa Poong Maykapal ay bigyan pa Niya ako ng lakas ng loob at mas malakas at matatag na katawan para sa pagtratrabaho ko rito. Hindi ko pinagsisisihan na ako ay nandirito ngayon. Bagkos mas lalo ko pang dinaragdagan ang aking kasipagan upang ako ay magtagal rito sa trabaho. Hanggang dumating ang tamang panahon na ang kontrata ko ay magwakas at puwede akong makapag-bakasyon sa Pilipinas.

Last December 2007, when I went to Rome I visited one of the place mysterious church. The name of the church is Santuario Santa Maria Del Divino Amore. I went there together with some friends. We went there Sunday morning and we attended the mass. We got surprised when one of the staff (nun) of the church approached us. The nun asked us if it's okay that we will be the one who will go to the altar to give the offerings. Of course, we accepted her request. We were very lucky because of all the people or visitors who are there at that time, we were the one who offered the offerings.

Preventing Rheumatoid Arthritis

I still remember that, at very young age, I started to suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis. I felt some pain at the joints of my knees. At first, I ignored it. I told to myself that I am just tired of walking. But there were times that the joint pain goes back and it's even more painful than the first one. Sometimes, I can't even concentrate on studying my lessons at night because of what is happening. That's the time that I decided to start taking a pain reliever medicine just to reduce the pain. Then one morning, I can't move my leg and I can't get up from the bed. This incident made my mom very nervous and she decided to call her best friend, who is a doctor, to come and see me. Dra. Alipio (that's what I call her), checked my condition and she told that what I am suffering is an illness called RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis). She told that sometimes this illness comes from the genes which is true, because my dad is also having a Rheumatoid Arthritis for a long time already. To treat the pain, Dra. Alipio advised me to take a Celebrex, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. She told me to take Celebrex everytime I can't resist the joint pain.

Having RA gives me the opportunity to know more about it. And based on what I've learned, RA is most frequently experienced particularLy by women more than men. It is believed that the tendency to develop rheumatoid arthritis may be genetically inherited or suspected that certain infections or factors in the environment triggered the activation of the immune system that will lead to RA. I learned also that aside from Celebrex, there are some RA medications like Enbrel, Arencia, Humira, and Remicade that can help in reducing the pain caused by RA. I know that these medicines are very effected like the one that I'm using, Celebrex.

So, to those people who are suffering from RA, I recommend you to... TAKE A MEDICINE, FIGHT RA...MAKE YOUR LIFE LONG AND HEALTHY.

Hot Climate

Here in Italy, we are already experiencing a very hot climate. Maybe because it's sunny day for almost one week. And the wind comes from the south. I even told my husband, that maybe this coming summer, it's much hotter than last year because last April, we didn't felt this hot weather. When we are at Sassoferato, my husband saw that there is a newly opened small Vivaio (a place where to buy ornamental plants, trees and fruit trees). We decided to go inside the vivaio. My husband saw a pear tree which is good during autumn and winter. We bought the tree for £14.00 and we planted it near the house.

When I was still teaching in the Philippines, one of my favorite hobbies was collecting different kinds of shoes. Sometimes, when me and mom go to the mall, I can't control myself buying a shoes especially if there is a sale and I like the style. Most of the shoes that I had were a Comfort Shoes. Some of them are Name Brands Shoes but there are some wherein the brand is not familiar but the quality is good. Before leaving the Philippines, I gave some of my collections of shoes to people who are very close to me like my friends and co-teachers in the school where I was teaching before.

Now, that I am in Italy, I am still fond of shoes. I'm still a shoe addict. In fact, I have different kinds of shoes which I use in different kinds of climates. For example, at the end of autumn and during winter I used the Ugg Boots that my husband bought me when I arrived. I like using this shoes because they are very comfortable to the feet. During summer, because it's hot I usually use an open sandals. How about you guys, are you a shoe addicts as well?

Have you ever heard the news about the earthquake happened here in the central part of Italy? Well, L'Aquila (the province of Abruzzo) is very near to our place. It's the next region (in the south) of Marche. As a matter of fact, during the time that the earthquake happened, some people who are living here in Fabriano felt it. And last night, there's again an aftershock which I felt when I am preparing the food of my father in-law. It's a strong one... but it takes only a couple of minutes. That aftershock happened last night, kills again some people in Abruzzo. Right now, the death toll of the earthquake is 250 and they believed that it will increase as the rescue team is still working to find the bodies of those people who was been trapped in their houses. I hope and pray that the earthquake will be over.

Here it is:

When You Divorce Me, Carry Me Out in Your Arms

On my wedding day, I carried my wife in my arms. The bridal car stopped in
front of our one-room flat. My buddies insisted that I carry her out of the
car in my arms. So I carried her into our home. She was then plump and shy.
I was a strong and happy bridegroom.

This was the scene ten years ago.

The following days were as simple as a cup of pure water: we had a kid; I
went into business and tried to make more money. When the assets were
steadily increasing, the affection between us seemed to ebb. She was a
civil servant. Every morning we left home together and got home almost at
the same time. Our kid was studying in a boarding school.

Our marriage life seemed to be enviably happy. But the calm life was more
likely to be affected by unpredictable changes.

Dew came into my life.

It was a sunny day. I stood on a spacious balcony. Dew hugged me from
behind. My heart once again was immersed in her stream of love. This was
the apartment I bought for her.

Dew said, you are the kind of man who best draws girls' eyeballs. Her words
suddenly reminded me of my wife. When we were just married, my wife said,
Men like you, once successful, will be very attractive to girls.

Thinking of this, I became somewhat hesitant. I knew I had betrayed my
wife. But I couldn't help doing so.

I moved Dew's hands aside and said you go to select some furniture, O.K.?
I've got something to do in the company. Obviously she was unhappy, because
I had promised to do it together with her. At the moment, the idea of
divorce became clearer in my mind although it used to be something
impossible to me.

However, I found it rather difficult to tell my wife about it. No matter
how mildly I mentioned it to her, she would be deeply hurt.

Honestly, she was a good wife. Every evening she was busy preparing dinner.
I was sitting in front of the TV. The dinner was ready soon. Then we
watched TV together. Or, I was lounging before the computer, visualizing
Dew's body. This was the means of my entertainment.

One day I said to her in a slightly joking way, suppose we divorce, what
will you do? She stared at me for a few seconds without a word. Apparently
she believed that divorce was something too far away from her. I couldn't
imagine how she would react once she got to know I was serious.

When my wife went to my office, Dew had just stepped out. Almost all the
staff looked at my wife with a sympathetic eye and tried to hide something
while talking to her. She seemed to have got some hint. She gently smiled
at my subordinates. But I read some hurt in her eyes.

Once again, Dew said to me, He Ning, divorce her, O.K.? Then we live
together. I nodded. I knew I could not hesitate any more.

When my wife served the last dish, I held her hand. I've got something to
tell you, I said. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt
in her eyes. Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let
her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the serious topic
calmly.

She didn't seem to be ann oyed by my words, instead she asked me softly,
why? I'm serious. I avoided her question. This so-called answer made her
angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man!

That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she
wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly
give her a satisfactory answer, because my heart had gone to Dew.

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that
she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company. She glanced
at it and then tore it into pieces. I felt a pain in my heart. The woman
who had been living ten years with me would become a stranger one day. But
I could not take back what I had said.

Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to
see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce
which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer.

Late that night, I came back home after entertaining my clients. I saw her
writing something at the table. I fall asleep fast. When I woke up, I found
she was still there. I turned over and was asleep again.

She brought up her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me,
but I was supposed to give her one month s time before divorce, and in the
month's time we must live as normal a life as possible. Her reason was
simple: our son would finish his summer vacation a month later and she

of pain. Subconsciously I reached out a hand to touch her head.

Our son came in at the moment. Dad, it's time to carry mum out. He said. To
him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had been an essential part
of his life. She gestured our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I
turned my face because I was afraid I would change my mind at the last
minute. I held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the
sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and
naturally. I held her body tightly, as if we came back to our wedding day.
But her much lighter weight made me sad.

On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our
son had gone to school. She said, actually I hope you will hold me in your
arms until we are old.

I held her tightly and said, both you and I didn't notice that our life
lacked intimacy.

I jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any
delay would make me change my decision. I walked upstairs. Dew opened the
door. I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I won't divorce. I'm serious.

She looked at me, astonished. The she touched my forehead. You got no
fever. She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said, I can
only say sorry to you, I won't divorce. My marriage life was boring
probably because she and I didn't value the details of life, not because we
didn't love each other any more. Now I understand that since I carried her
into the home, she gave birth to our child, I am supposed to hold her until
I am old. So I have to say sorry to you.

Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed
the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove to the office.

When I passed the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet for my wife
which was her favorite. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I
smiled and wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until we are old.

Last Friday, I received an email coming from Ate Lisa telling that my kitchen blog's PR went down. I tried to check it immediately and I found out that it's true. So, from PR 4 it went down to PR 2. New Mexico is one of the states in US located in the southwestern region. It's climate is highly arid and mostly of it's territory is covered by mountains and desert.

This morning, I received a call coming from one of my students who is now living in New Mexico together with her husband. It's my first time to hear her voice and according to her, she likes NM very much and she is enjoying her life there. She even mentioned that, last December, she and her husband went to Santa Fe who is the most popular city in NM. They went there to visit the art galleries. I told her, that I saw it in her friendster account. I even told her that everytime I'm visiting her site, I'm enjoying watching all her New Mexico pictures . I even told her that, how I wish I could go their someday.

Conquering Depression in the Golden Years

Last year, I received a call coming from my mom, telling that my aunt is having a mental health problem. My mom told me that, my aunt was diagnosed of having a bipolar disorder or also called manic-depression. I felt sad about it.

Bipolar disorder is thought to be less common than other depressive disorders wherein a person are troubled by cycling mood swings- usually severe highs (mania) and lows (depression). The mood swing are sometimes dramatic and rapid but usually are more gradual.

My aunt usually suffers from manic stage wherein sometimes she acts like a child, overactive, over talkative and have a great deal of energy. Once my aunt feels that she is acting differently from the normal behavior she have, she is taking immediately a medicine that was prescribed by her doctor to make her calm.

When I learned about it, I asked myself why she got this problem since before when she is still in her younger years she never experienced this kind of mental health disorder. Maybe the reason is that, it's not easy looking after the children alone (my uncle is a seaman) especially if they are growing. Maybe, my aunt is suffering a lot of problems wherein she is just keeping it alone. Maybe she suffered too much, when my cousin (my aunt's son) undergone a head operation twice because of motorcycle accidents. Maybe these are the reasons.

And I'm happy because I found a book entitled Conquering Depression in the Golden Years which is very powerful and extremely useful on how to fight depression especially to the elderly. This book written by Valentin Bragin, M.D., Ph.D , provides information about the symptoms of illness in the elderly, details brain and body involvement in depression and describes his programs of proven techniques.
